The roots of Web of Change are in a small annual gathering at Hollyhock Retreat Centre, on Cortes Island, BC. Founded in 2001, this intimate and transformative annual event brought together a diverse group of social change leaders every September, growing in size and scope every year. Eight years on, Web of Change has helped to create an inspiring network of online innovators around the world.
With some big changes happening inside the WOC leadership team, and with the US election demanding "all hands on deck" (including many of our favorite Web of Change friends and allies), it became obvious in early 2008 that the time was right to shake things up for a season. And so, we are excited to offer two new events this year, in lieu of our annual flagship Web of Change conference.
Social Tech Training :: June 22 - 24, 2008
The Social Tech Training, produced in partnership with MaRS, will mark our first-ever full length urban event. This intensive three-day workshop will provide 65 participants from across Canada and the US with the skills and the tools required to produce a comprehensive Web 2.0 communications plan for their organization.
