2013: Help us find a U.S. host
During the recent community renewal process we unearthed a lot of passion and love for Hollyhock, but also a strong desire to try a more accessible, U.S.-based wilderness location. We're committed to doing just that in 2013. (If you haven't heard, Web of Change 2012 is on at Hollyhock!)
It's a big country and we're looking for a special place in the States, can you help us find it? We're just six months out from Web of Change 2012, and 18 short months away from the 2013 gathering, so we're on the hunt now for a U.S. location to secure a suitable space and dates.
For all of you folks that voted for a move to the U.S., what have you got? Where should we go in 2013?
Come on Americans, our Canadian friends have shared their very best, let's dig up a gem. The desert Southwest? NoCal coast? The high Sierra's? Colorado Rockies? Land of a thousand lakes? The Adirondack's? Green mountains of Vermont? White mountains of New Hampshire? Maine's coast or a north woods lodge? The Appalachians? The Florida Everglades? The Gulf coast?
Replicating the Hollyhock vibe is no easy task, but we'd like to find a place with similar qualities and values. We all are aware that the setting contributes greatly to making Web of Change such a special gathering. Here's what we're looking for:
- Ample and comfortable space for 100 to sleep and meet.
- A beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing environment.
- A wilderness setting where we can really unplug.
- A commitment to social justice and social change.
- Exceptional care and consideration from the hosts.
- Great food! Preferably sourced locally and organic.
One of the main motives for a move is accessibility, so while we're looking for a wilderness type setting, a central location close to a reasonably sized airport is key as well. No more than say a 2 hour drive.
Without your input we're reliant on the likes of Google and Yelp (which isn't exactly up on wilderness retreat centers ya know.) Let us know about the special places you know of. Please email your suggestions to [email protected].
