Meet Karen Uffelman: Web of Change 2011 Fellow

Along with an extensive knowledge of country western song lyrics from the late '70s and early '80s, Karen brings significant expertise in membership engagement, coalition building, fundraising, and asking questions. She’s the Director of Client Strategy at Groundwire, where she and her team work with environmental organizations to engage their audiences through smart use of new technology and old-fashioned organizing. Karen consults on both format and substance, and combines the best practices of relationship marketing, grassroots mobilization, and analytics to help organizations build deeper relationships and make bigger impacts. She is an eternal optimist, loves the rain, and suffers from a serious cookbook addiction. Her first real job was managing a performing arts center called New City Theater. Other previous credits include Development Director for Corporate Accountability International, Associate Director of Washington Environmental Alliance for Voter Education (WEAVE), and Managing Director of Washington Conservation Voters.

When she's not at work, you can find her at Pratt in the printmaking studio, studying flamenco, learning trapeze tricks, baking pies, climbing mountains, digging in her garden, or riding her super-spiff Giant Chixie. Karen lives in Seattle’s Rainier Valley with her partner Scott, two cats, and way too many bicycles.
