Web of Change

Thanks so much to all of you who took the time to vote for our proposal at GiveMeaning. We were able to reach the required 100 votes fairly handily, and are now ready to receive donations to our Diversity Scholarship Fund.

We have been doing a lot of outreach around North America, tapping into networks of people doing brilliant transformational social change work, online and off. For many of them, the cost of attendance is just too high, but we feel it's a priority to ensure they attend. 

We need you to vote for our proposal at GiveMeaning, so that we can start raising money for our Diversity Fund!

We believe strongly that it is important that Web of Change offer a more inclusive environment than many of the other tech conferences out there. The conversation about the best ways to use technology to bring about lasting social change needs to include as wide a range of voices as possible – not just those who can afford to be there.

Calling all Web of Change alumni...

We want to publish a handful of powerful stories, on our site and in our newsletter, because we know that many of you are doing some of the most innovative and inspiring social change work out there. We want to inspire the broader public with what is happening in our sector.

We're envisioning stories about projects that were *exceptional*, that transformed a system or a marketplace – projects that really caught fire. We're envisioning a window into the best work produced by our network, showing just what is possible when you act like a real "web of change".

Do you have such a story? If so, jot it down (300 words or less), and send it to [email protected]. (Bonus points if your story includes a line about how Web of Change helped you in your work.) The best story will be awarded a massage at this year's Web of Change conference – or any time at Hollyhock in the next two years.

All submitted stories will be considered for publication (not just the winner). We look forward to hearing from you!

Our draft agenda is now available. We've identified five key themes, and are in the process of deciding on the best sessions and the best leaders to bring those themes to life.

Likely sessions include:

• Leading with Strategy
• The Art of Building a Team
• Project Management
• Online/Offline Integration
• Cross Channel Campaigning (weaving Web 2.0 tools with offline events)
• Collaboration and Story-telling in Action
• What’s new, hot and worth paying attention to (and what is not worth your time or money)?

With so much innovation and growth all around us in our community of committed change agents, we feel privileged to have the opportunity to catalyze crucial conversations, and to make our work as a movement more useful, and more effective.

As many of you know, we hold Web of Change at Hollyhock because it is an amazing place and because we believe that as a venue, it contributes a great deal to the overall impact of our event. At the same time, however, holding the event at Hollyhock also means that we simply don't have room for everyone who wants to attend Web of Change.

And so for 2007, we are asking that all prospective participants contact us before registering, so that we can ensure you are a good fit for the specific nature of this event. If you are interested in attending, please send a short introduction to [email protected] – anyone is welcome to apply.
