What is WOC Canada?

Web of Change Canada is where diverse leaders working at the frontiers of technology and social change come to up their game. Over five days, we candidly share front-line campaign experiences, reflect deeply on our impact and find the network and meaning we need to do transformational work. Web of Change balances professional development and technical skills sharing with relationship building.

It’s a singular event. There’s no better gathering of smart people working on social change anywhere in Canada.

About Hollyhock

On British Columbia's wild west coast, Hollyhock is world-class retreat centre and learning institute. Nestled along the beaches of rugged Cortes Island, the centre provides the chance for professional development and personal reflection among towering fir trees and circling eagles.

Breathtaking views, contemplative beach walks and water activities, like kayaking and night swimming, add to the Web of Change experience. The setting provides change makers with space to recharge.

Nowhere on Earth refreshes your soul like Hollyhock.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Who is Web of Change Canada for?

Web of Change is for people who work on digital campaigns for social change. Over the years, the event has welcomed the best and the brightest from regional, national and international organizations. Attendees come from Canada, the United States and abroad. For more information on what makes a good Web of Changer, read this page.

I’m American. Can I come to Web of Change Canada?

Definitely! Part of the magic of Web of Change is the cross-cultural experience of Canadians, Americans and other nationalities connecting and intermixing. While there will be a focus on Canadian issues, we plan to capture that magic at Web of Change Canada.

How will Web of Change Canada differ from the flagship event?

In terms of programming and style, Web of Change Canada will be very similar to the flagship event. We’ll candidly share frontline experiences, reflect deeply on our impact and find the network and support we need to do transformational work with an added focus on how technology is used in our sector.. The event will also specifically highlight some Canadian issues and campaigns.

We anticipate that Web of Change Canada will be somewhat smaller in scale than the flagship event. We can accommodate up to 80 attendees this year.

Web of Change Canada will reflect our community’s commitment to equity and diversity, just as our flagship event does. The aim is to create a safe space for all in our community.

As a side note, the annual flagship event usually occurs in the fall. It’s at the end of November in 2016 to accommodate the many Web of Changers working on the US presidential elections.

Pricing & Scholarships

In 2015, Web of Change gave away more than $35,000 in scholarships. Registration, accommodation and travel scholarships will be available again in 2016 because we want successful applicants to be able to attend the conference, regardless of their ability to pay.

Web of Change Canada conference pricing will range from CDN  $1250 to $2100 (US $875 to $1475), depending on your accommodation preference. This pricing includes the conference fee, all meals and accommodation.

Where is hollyhock?

Hollyhock is nestled between the forest and ocean on the southeastern tip of Cortes Island, British Columbia, about 160 km (100 miles) north of Vancouver. Web of Change Canada will help coordinate travel to Hollyhock, but here's how to get there.
