Event Manager Job Posting

Web of Change is a community of leaders pushing the boundaries of campaigns and innovating new models of people-driven engagement. Our primary program is delivery of an annual summit event, a 5 day invitational conference at a wilderness retreat setting. 

The Event Manager is a new role for 2012 and will be responsible for leading the team that brings the conference to life. Building off of our long history as a volunteer driven event that balances an emergent, organic approach with professionalism and structure, we seek a strong yet collaborative leader who will "work like a network" and create a community-driven process to design the event's agenda and engage its leaders deeply in it. Experience is required in both managing complex networks and producing solid events. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Convene our volunteer Anchor Team to lead and produce all aspects of our 2012 event
  • Manage our part time Operations Manager, oversee event budget, make day-to-day decisions as required within the bounds set by Anchor Team  
  • Write event oriented promotional content for publishing across our multiple channels
  • Work with WOC Chair on fundraising and strategy for future programs

Specific roles of Anchor team will be determined based on the skills and capabilities of the Event Manager. Prior roles related to the event have included:

Working with Communications Anchor to establish and implement Communications plan and build buzz within and beyond the community, distribute thought leadership and communicate with attendees. Enhance relationships and cultivate community with like-minded connectors in the progressive community. Write emails, blogs, newsletters, social media posts. Develop and post content, updates, etc on web sites and social media platforms. Prepare post event sponsor report (package)  and archive event assets including such things as photography, videos & case studies.

Working with Fellows Anchor to recruit individual leaders, or fellows, who are aligned with Web of Change mission and engage them to find our field's best crop of participants. Liaise with Communications and Agenda Anchors to integrate Fellows content into the conference program.

Working with Agenda Anchor to design an agenda that synthesizes key ideas and concepts. Coordinate the production services of a creative/design volunteer/sponsor to produce the conference package.

Working with Fundraising Anchor and Chairs to create a sponsorship tracking system and support achievement of our fundraising goals.  

Your Skills:

  • Experience leading or managing networks or community driven enterprises including finding appropriate roles for high capacity but busy volunteers
  • 3-5 years event management experience 
  • Understanding of and passion for innovation in non profit technology and campaigns
  • Relationships and network in our social change tech world
  • Ability to develop compelling written communications
  • Fundraising and development experience a major bonus

This position covers an approximate 8 month time period from March 2012 to October 2012. It can be based anywhere in North America. The budget is approximately $20,000.
