Travel to Hollyhock on Cortes Island
Getting to Hollyhock via Vanpool
Haven't bought your vanpool ticket but still want to ride with us, sign up now. Cost is $200 return trip. We highly recommend getting to Hollyhock this way.
Vanpools leaves at 8:30 am and 11 am from the YWCA Downtown Hotel on September 3rd. For those flying into Vancouver on Tuesday, September 2 and staying the night, here is a list of places to stay in Vancouver.
Depart Vancouver: September 3, 2014
- Departing Vancouver by vanpool on Wednesday, September 3 at 8:30 am or 11 am (depending which vanpool group you're in) to catch the ferry and drive up to Campbell River.
- Take a 3 pm or 5 pm water taxi to Cortes Island (approx 30 minutes).
Arrive at Hollyhock: Approx 3:30 pm or 5:30 pm
Depart Hollyhock: September 7, 2014
- Departing Cortes by water taxi at 11 am or 1 pm (depending which vanpool group you're in).
- Vanpool to the ferry then drive on into downtown Vancouver.
Arrive downtown Vancouver: Approx 6 pm or 8 pm.
If you are planning to depart Vancouver on Sunday, September 7 on a red eye flight, please notify Julie that you'd like to be in the early vanpool in order to leave enough time for any unanticipated travel delays and to get from downtown Vancouver to the Vancouver International Airport (YVR). This is approximately a 30 minute cab of Canada Line ride.
Self Drive/Ferry Option
You can rent a car and drive up to Hollyhock on your own. Driving from Vancouver to Hollyhock is a full-day trip, but a beautiful one. Here's how to get there:
- From Horseshoe Bay take BC Ferries to Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. (10:40 am sailing. Ferry reservation highly recommended.)
- Take Highway 19 North to Campbell River (2.5 hrs).
- Turn right on Highway 19A Exit at North Campbell River.
- Follow the signs to Quadra/Cortes Ferries. Entrance to BC Ferries is on the left. Check ferry schedule.
- Take BC Ferries to Quadra Island (10 min) & follow the road signs to the Cortes Island Ferry (15 min).
- Take BC Ferries to Cortes Island (45 min). Check ferry schedule.
- Follow the signs to Smelt Bay Provincial Park, watch for Highfield Rd (17kms from ferry terminal) after passing through Manson’s Landing village.
Seaplane/Fly to Hollyhock
